The Executive Director of HACCP Academy of Nigeria (HAN), Dr. James Olawale Marsh, a renowned international HACCP/Food Safety has issued a strong warning to Nigerians to take the issue of food safety seriously as a matter of life and death.

He dropped this hint in an interview while speaking on the activities of his organisation to mark this year’s World Food Safety Day with the theme: “Safe Food Healthy Living,” celebrated annually on June 7.

He said since two years ago, HAN took it upon itself to champion the celebration in Lagos.

He said that the organisation will commence a week-long activity to mark this year’s event on Wednesday June 1 with a farm visit.

Other activities, according to him, include a visit to logistics companies on day-two, while on day-three, the team will visit the Lagos State University to sensitize the students on food safety.

On day-four, he said there will be a visit to a market where fruits and food sellers will be sensitised on the importance of food safety and the need to desist from accelerating the ripening of fruits with carbide because of its negative effect on the human system.

On day-five, he said there will be a food safety podcast and there will be food safety walk on day-six while the climax will be on Tuesday, June 7, and will witness a food festival and food exhibition, among others.

Speaking further, he said that what the world is doing is to talk about food safety and why it is important because it is about life and death.
